Balkwill Signs With Sonoma Stompers

Sonoma-StompersChatham’s Larry Balkwill has made another step in his professional baseball career, signing with the Pacific Association of Professional Baseball’s newest franchise, the Sonoma Stompers.

“It means a lot considering I was coming to terms that my baseball career might be over,” said Balkwill about signing with the Sonoma Stompers. “It’s an opportunity in professional baseball that I’m excited for and another chance to play and perform.”

After graduating from a successful NCAA career with the Sienna Saints, Balkwill joined the IBL’s London Majors last summer, playing 35 regular season and playoff games. Balkwill had 28 RBI’s, 2 home runs, and hit .331 through that stretch.

A former Detroit Tigers draft pick, and Ursuline College Chatham graduate, Balkwill will now suit up with the Sonoma Stompers, who are an expansion team in the upstart Pacific Association.

Sonoma, located in California, will be the sixth team in the Pacific Association, which also features two clubs in Hawaii.

The team will hold tryouts this March to complete their roster before beginning play in the spring.
