Wheatley Sharks Take Home Multiple Major Awards at League Banquet
The Wheatley Sharks who have come on of late showed that their success has been built on good coaching and strong defense, as the team took home two major honours at the 2011 Great Leakes Junior Hockey League award banquet.
Wheatley defensman Kevin Ouellette took home the honour of the league’s Top Defenseman, while the Wheatley Sharks coaching staff was named the best in the league. Ouellette, a punishing defenseman from Windsor scored 6 goals and 10 assists this year, along with 119 penalty minutes while partoling the Wheatley blueline.
The coaching staff which orchestrated a late season run was honoured as tops in the league including head coach Ken Galerno, and assistants Brad Hyatt, Josh Carnevale, and Aaron Setterington.
Recently, Wheatley Sharks goaltender Marc Tremblay was also named the January Player of the Month for the Great Lakes league.
The lone honour Wallaceburg was able to take home on the night was their trophy for finishing atop the league in the regular season. With playoff series underway, the annual awards ceremony played second fiddle to the more urgent games at hand.
Playoff action continues tonight with Wallaceburg at Blenheim, and Mooretown at Alvinston.
