Although she didn’t hit the scoresheet, former Chatham Outlaws and Chatham-Kent Cyclones player Meghan Agosta, asserted herself as a force on the ice for Team Canada as they downed the USA 3-1 yesterday in a World Championship tune up game in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Agosta, who recently finished her college hockey career with Mercyhurst, graduating as the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer in women’s hockey, will suit up for Canada alongside Hayley Wickenheiser and Sarah Vaillancourt on Canada’s top line.

In the 3-1 win, Agosta didn’t manage a point, but she showed herself to be a physical presence and her line was on the ice for 2 of Canada’s 3 goals, including the games first goal by Vaillancourt.

The 2011 IIHF Women’s World Hockey Championships run from April 16-25 in Winterthur and Zurich, Switzerland. Meghan Agosta and Team Canada open their tournament Saturday, April 16 against the host Switzerland at 8pm. On the 17th, Canada plays Kazakhstan.

Although they do not meet in the round robin, Canada and the United States will undoubtedly face off against each other in either the semi-finals or gold medal game.
