Chad Laprise Going to Battle at Pro Fighting Championships in Windsor
Chatham’s only professional MMA fighter is preparing to put his 3-0 pro record on the line in what is shaping up to be the biggest fight of his young career. Chad Laprise will be fighting Canada’s top ranked grappler. Andrew McInnes, at the WFCU Centre in Windsor July 16.
In preparation for this fight, Laprise has been training in Las Vegas with Team Tompkins MMA, something he says has him ready to take on McInnes at Border Wars, put on by the Professional Fighting Chamionships, in Windsor,
“I’ve been in training camp for 11 weeks for this fight with almost three weeks being spent down here in Vegas to finsh out my camp with Shawn Tompkins at the Tapout Training Center,” Laprise told CKSN via email from Las Vegas, “This time in Vegas has been amazing and I am ready for this fight.”
Facing a fighter such as Andrew McInnes who is known for his grappling skills, and is also a highly accomplished Jiu Jitsu fighter, Laprise knows there is a lot on the line, and that winning this fight will take his professional MMA career to a new level,
“Winning this fight will be great as Andrew is a huge name in the grappling world and very well known. After he fought Diego Sanchez in a Sub X Match at the UFC Fan Expo in Toronto, everyone keeps talking about how good he is. Beating him will only make my name bigger.”
In front of what is sure to be a packed house at Windsor’s WFCU Centre, Laprise expects his fight with McInnes to be a war, but is prepared for whatever his competitor brings to the cage,
“Andrew will for sure try and take this fight to the ground and I’m prepared for wherever it goes,” said Laprise, “I will stuff his takedowns and knock him out on our feet as my striking will be much better than his. I started in Muay Thai way before MMA and that has always been my base.”
Laprise, who credits his coach in Las Vegas, Shawn Tompkins, for getting him into the best physical and technical shape he’s been in during his professional MMA career, knows that his mental preparation for this fight is just as important as his physical work, and he’s set on only one outcome, a win in what he expects to be a battle from start to finish,
“For this fight I am the most mentally focused that I have ever been. Everyday in Vegas I am working with the best guys in the world and the best coach in the world. Training with people like that really helps your confidence knowing that there is nothing that will happen in the fight that is harder than what I do everyday in training. I really want to turn this fight into a war and set the pace early to let him know he is in a fight. Every opportunity I get I want to punish him from every position.”
Focused and ready for the fight of his life, Laprise is confident that if he fights his own fight and relies on his experience in the cage, that July 16th at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, it will be his name announced as the winner of his bout against grappler Andrew McInnes who is making his professional MMA debut,
“I need to go in there and make him pay every chance I get, that is the key to winning this fight. He has amazing skills on the ground, probably the best in Canada, so I can’t get caught up in his game. Be smart in every position and fight my fight. I don’t think he will be as mentally or phyically strong as me and I want to break him early. Andrew is a great opponent and it’s a great honour to fight a guy who has such great skills, but at the end of a day, this is a fight not a grappling contest. I have more experence in the cage and I plan on using that to my advantage.”
