Jones Leaves Field Thunderstruck in Rain Shortened Night at Buxton
When it comes to the Tirecraft Comp 4s Feature at South Buxton Raceway this season, Blenheim’s Shawn Jones has been the king of the track.
After winning his 5th straight race in a rain shortened night Saturday at South Buxton, Jones now holds the largest overall lead in any of the four feature events at South Buxton. Jones currently sits with 402 points, while his closest competitor in the Comp 4s standings has 330 points. The next highest gap, comes in the Schinkels Meats UMP Modifieds standings where Jim Dale Jr holds a 19 point lead over second place Joel Dick.
Saturday, the 19-year-old Jones battled back and forth with Cottam’s Denis DeSerrano, however Jones was able to hold off his challenges and take the checkered flag in the 15-lap feature. Chatham’s Randy McKinlay finsihed 3rd while Tilbury’s Ryan Beaulieu was 5th in the race.
In the only other feature of the evening that took place due to severe weather, C.J. Field took a shortened 10-lap version of the Schinkels Meats UMP Modifieds event. Field was leading the race when it was called due to lightning. A trio of Chatham residents finished 3rd, 4th, and 5th, in Jeff Daniels, Louis Clements, and Eric Vanderiviere respectively.
The remainder of the races were postponed due to weather.
