VanDamme Helping Team "O" to Strong Showing at Nationals
Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse product, Emily VanDamme, is going to be very busy for the next couple of weeks. She is once again representing Wallaceburg in the 2011 Girls Bantam Box Lacrosse Nationals this week in New Westminster, BC. She will then fly home to play with her travel team in the OLA Bantam ‘B’ Provincials which are held in Whitby, Ontario.
The 2011 Nationals tournament started this past Sunday, with Team Ontario winning their first game versus Team Atlantic, 14-0. Emily VanDamme split the game with fellow Team Ontario goalie Lauren Young (Centre Wellington).
Team “O” then took to the floor later on Sunday to face their toughest opponent of the tournament in Team BC. Emily turned away 34 of the 37 shots but Team Ontario took the loss, losing 3-1. Alexis Kinmond (Peterborough) scored Team Ontario’s only goal of the game.
After getting some much needed rest Sunday night, Emily and the rest of Team “O” took to the floor Monday morning to face Team Alberta in their third game of the tournament. Although Team Alberta played well, they weren’t able to overcome the strength of Team Ontario, as Team “O” won the game 5-1. Emily had another strong showing as she stopped 19 of 20 shots.
Team Ontario is now 2-1-0 in the Nationals and they look to avenge their loss to BC when they face them again Monday at 4:30pm PST.
