With only 23 seconds left on the clock, Brennan Rainey knocked in his second goal of the game after a terrible giveaway to lift his Dresden Kings to a 4-3 win over the Blenheim Blades at home.

Blenheim got out to an early first period lead with a goal by captain Taylor Phillips, and widened their lead to 2-0 in the second period as Ben Campbell potted a powerplay marker.

Dresden however, answered back with 3 unanswered goals from Rainey, Dylan Mertz, and Cody McPhail. Rainey’s first goal came only 30 seconds after Blenheim increased their lead off a one timer on a beautiful feed by underager Macks Holmes.

Entering the third period, Ben Campbell scored his second powerplay goal of the game to knot the contest at 4-4. Then, with the clock ticking down, Cam Ross stole the puck from a Blenheim defender and launched a shot at the Blades’ net. Goalie Dylan Vanderpol couldn’t corral the rebound and Rainey jammed it home to put the Kings ahead for good.

Dresden travels to Wheatley on Monday to face last year’s Great Lakes finalists, while Blenheim returns home facing Alvinston this Sunday.
