Sports Quote of the Week – John Leonard

It’s that time of year again. The NHL and NBA are just around the corner, NFL football is underway, and Major League Baseball is heading toward the final playoff push. So what do these four sports have in common other than we love to watch them? Not much according to American writer and critic John Leonard.

Below, Leonard’s quote compares what he believed to be the biggest difference between hockey, baseball, football, and basketball. One slowly builds to a finale, while the others are a constant barrage.

Baseball happens to be a game of cumulative tension but football, basketball and hockey are played with hand grenades and machine guns.
