Ridgetown Royals Ranked 3rd Heading Into OFSAA Hockey

The Ridgetown Royals girls hockey team will be heading down the 401 to faceoff at the 2012 OFSAA girls hockey championships in Belleville this week.

Entering the tournament as the 3rd ranked team in the Province, the Ridgetown Royals are expected to make some noise at the tournament.

Ridgetown will open the tournament against Mississauga St. Paul, followed by Sudbury Notre Dame. On the second day of competition, the Royals will take on tougher competition against 8 seed Kincardine, and Fonthill E.L. Crossley.

The Ridgetown Royals finished second in the regular season to the Ursuline College Lancers, but upset UCC in the Kent final 3-1 lead by a hat trick from team leader Karleigh Hopkins.

Ridgetown defeated Lambton ‘A-AA’ representative Sarnia St. Christophers, who was also awarded a berth at OFSAA after Tecumseh L’Essor forfeited to Ridgetown, handing the Royals the SWOSSAA crown.

The OFSAA championships will run from March 20-23 in Belleville and Trenton.
