Cianna Bechard Wins Silver at OFSAA

Chatham-Kent Secondary School’s Cianna Bechard had one amazing throw this week at the 2012 OFSAA Track and Field meet in Brockville launching herself to a silver medal in the midget girls javelin event.

Competing at the highest level of high school athletics in Ontario, Bechard, who is a grade 9 student at CKSS, entered the event as the fourth and final qualifier from the OFSAA West Regionals.

On her fifth of six attempts, Bechard threw her javelin 33.07m, second best in the final behind Essex athlete Madeline McCloskey who defeated Bechard by only 9cm with a throw of 33.16m. The next closest athletes were 3m short of Bechard and McCloskey.

Bechard advanced to OFSAA after throwing 28.96 metres at Regionals.

UCC’s Anastasia Maslak jumped 1.50m to finish 5th in Midget Girls high jump, and was 16th in triple jump with a 10.06m jump.

John McGregor’s Anique Daley narrowly missed the Senior Girls 400m final, finishing 9th in the preliminaries.
