Record Crowds and Cowbells Expected for 3rd St. Clair River Run
Clanging cowbells and community cheering will ring through the air during the the St. Clair River Run. This scenic, certified 10 km run and 5 km walk/run follows the shore of the river through the beautiful villages of Sombra and Port Lambton along the St. Clair Parkway. The third annual St. Clair River Run on Saturday, July 21, 2012 has gained a significant following.
This chip-timed annual event continues to grow and over 400 people are registered to participate. From experienced runners to graduates of the ‘Learn to Run program’, the scenic route and community atmosphere attracts people of all ages. “One of our goals is to encourage people to get more active and it is great to see parents pushing strollers and to hear stories of multi-generation families running together,” says Rose Atkins, planning committee member. “A ‘Minnow Run’ for children ages 4-7 years is being added this year in response to a participant survey completed after last year’s run. There is no cost for this age group but registration is required.”
Community members will have the opportunity to receive a cowbell with the run’s logo for a $5 donation to the river trail. The clang and cheers will encourage runners as they move toward the finish line. “Last year participants reported a highlight of the run was community members cheering them on,” shared Ben Hazzard, planning committee member. “The cowbells will enhance runner’s motivation and showcase our friendly community.”
Register by logging onto www.stclairriverrun.ca or on the morning of the race at Brander Park in Port Lambton. Each participant will receive a technical T-shirt for this run which is chip-timed on an Athletics Canada certified course. The St. Clair Parkway is closed along the route.
