Fillies Trot To Silver Stick Championship

This is the first Silver Stick championship since the formation of the Kent County Fillies Girls Hockey Association.
The Midget “C” Fillies have dominated their tournaments this season, being backstopped by goaltender Veronica McFadden. McFadden, including the Silver Stick Championships, has allowed only 4 goals total in all four tournaments. She led the team to victory, posting 3 shutouts against stiff opponents, in the 2013 Silver Stick at Saugeen Shores February 8-10th.
Facing the Mildmay Monarchs in their opening game, the Fillies walked away with a hard fought 1-1 tie. Lexi Pugh scored the lone goal, assisted by Olivia Pomajba and Alanna Schilbe. In their second game of the tournament facing the Grey Highlands Shooting Stars, the Kent Fillies got in the win column winning 3-0.
Lexi Pugh scored her second of the tournament, while Sydney Lozon scored assisted by Lauren Stefina, and
Erin Reid rounded out the offence assisted by Amanda Derikx.
On the second day of the tournament, the Fillies face the Saugeen Shores Storm. McFadden posted her second shutout leading Kent County to a 2-0 win. Lauren Hammond opened the scoring, assisted by Olivia Henry, before Lauren Stefina capped off the Fillies’ attack.
Playing the Goderich Sailorettes in the semi-finals, the Fillies faced their toughest competition yet, with the game heading to overtime. The girls however would fight to a 3-2 win, with Sydney Lozon, Amanda Derikx, and Olivia Henry scoring in the win.
Playing the Saugeen Shores Storm again in the final, the Fillies went on to collect their second shutout, and second straight 2-0 win over Saugeen to capture the Silver Stick title. Alanna Schilbe buried a goal, assisted by Lexi Pugh, and Erin Reid scored, assisted by Amanda Derikx, to lift the Fillies to their organization’s first ever Silver Stick title.
