Maroons Advance to Western Conference Final
Last season, the Chatham Maroons were on the outside looking in of the GOJHL Western Conference playoffs. This year, they’ll be battling for a Western Conference Championship after eliminating the Strathroy Rockets Saturday night.
Chatham got out of the gate with a strong first period which included two powerplay goals. Trevor Richardson opened the scoring even strength, before Sean Myers and Brennan Feasey scored with the man advantage to make the score 3-0 heading into the second period.
In the second, Chatham’s veterans continued to play an important role, with Alex Morgan and Blake Blondeel scoring. Strathroy would get one back from Adam Vandersluis, but the Maroons held a commanding 4 goal lead after 40 minutes.
Brett Dalton would cut Chatham’s lead to 3 in the third, before Connor Doran slid home an empty net goal to cap off the Maroons win, sending Chatham to the Western Conference final.
Chatham will now host the London Nationals in the GOJHL Western Conference final after London eliminated second place Leamington 4 games to 1. The winner of this series will advance to the Sutherland Cup.
