It didn’t take long for Chatham’s Ryan Jones to send a message back to Edmonton saying not to count him out yet, as the veteran winger scored in his AHL season opener with the Oklahoma City Barons.

“I thought we playing exceptionally well in the last two periods,” said Jones about his team’s 3-2 loss to the Charlotte Checkers. “It was night and day the two hockey teams. There’s no doubt if we can put 60 minutes together like we did the last 40 today, we’ll win a lot of hockey games for sure.”

Jones is wearing an assistant captain’s “A” for Oklahoma City, and almost had his second goal of the game, but was called for goaltender interference.

Jones’ goal came at 5:36 of the second period, as he banged in a rebound from Ryan Martindale.

Jones and the Oklahoma City Barons take on the Charlotte Checkers again Saturday night. Before playing two games next weekend against the Iowa Wild.

Dresden’s Wes Cunningham attended training camp with the Oklahoma City Barons, but was returned to the ECHL’s Bakersfield Condors before the start of the season.
