Panthers Tops In Duane Newby Tournament

The John McGregor Panthers grabbed the championship title at the annual Duane Newby Memorial senior girls basketball tournament held at John McGregor and Ursuline College. The annual tournament is sponsored by Union Gas, as Newby was an employee of Union Gas, and was also a basketball referee in Chatham-Kent.

On Friday, the JMSS Panthers beat L’Essor 68-23, and Massey 68-15. The other local team involved, UCC, lost 43-28 to St. Patrick’s and beat L’Essor 45-35.

Saturday in the championship game, John McGregor narrowly defeated St. Patrick’s 37-33 to take the tournament title.
