Peewee Fillies Capture Gold
The Kent County Fillies PeeWee B team participated in the Kitchener Lady Rangers Fallfest Tournament November 22-24 where they captured the gold medal.
The girls were playing up in the higher “BB” division, competing against, and defeating teams in a higher division. Including a tough West Northumberland team in the final, where they took a 2-0 victory.
Facing the West Northumberland Wild, who hail from Cobourg, Ontario in the opening game, the Fillies skated to a 0-0 draw. Goalie Marandee Hunter stopped every chance she faced, picking up the shutout.
In their second game, the Kent Fillies defeated the North York Storm 3-1 for their first win of the tournament.
Game three of the tournament saw the Fillies defeat the host Kitchener Lady Rangers 4-1. Lauren Kelly, who finished the game with two goals and two assists, opened the scoring for the Fillies, before Kelsea Ellis scored the game winner in the third. Hunter Twigg and Kelly had the other third period goals.
Facing West Northumberland yet again Saturday, Kent took a 4-1 win, with Kelly again leading the way with a goal and two assists, while Chloe Fox, Brooke-Lyn Phelan, and Emily Vanek also scored.
Sunday, the Kent Fillies faced West Northumberland for the third time in the tournament in the gold medal game, and took a 2-0 win to capture the gold. Brooke Anderson scored the opening goal, which would stand as the tournament winner. In the third, Brenna Oliphant added an insurance marker for the Fillies.
Marandee Hunter again picked up the shutout for the Fillies, starting each game for the Fillies in the tournament.
