Maroons Focus Turns To Next Season

Chatham-Maroons-New-LogoAfter being eliminated for the second straight season in the GOJHL Western Conference Final, the Chatham Maroons are turning their focus on the 2014-2015 season.

The Maroons will be holding their annual spring camp, aimed at identifying rookies and other prospects, April 27 and May 1.

The camp will take place at Memorial Arena and is open to players with birth years between 1994 and 1998. 1999 players wishing to skate, and anyone else interested in the camp, must contact Bill Cumming (519-401-4747, bill@renaperson.com).

The Maroons will begin the process of filling holes on their roster. With the departure due to age of league leading scorer Kyle Brothers, GOJHL all-time active scoring leader Adam Arseneault, and all-stars Tanner Ferguson, Jacob Keogh, and Charlie Izaguirre, the Maroons will have needs at all positions.

Compounding that matter, is the fact the team will be restricted to fewer cards, and fewer import players.

Following a strong showing at the OHL Draft however, the Maroons will have much local talent to choose from for their two 1998 underage players. As well, a strong group of 1997 born players including Dede Cato of the Dresden Kings, and Drew Marlatt of the Blenheim Blades, who are both from Chatham, are ready to make the jump to Junior B.

Also on the minds of the Chatham Maroons’ brass, is the possible reclassification of the GOJHL to a Junior A league. The league applied for reclassification from the OHA, and expect a decision in the coming days.
