Trevor Niven, who plays for the Chatham-Kent Cougars Senior Varsity football team, is the Chatham-Kent Cougars Player of the Week, sponsored by EnviroClean Car & Dog Wash, for the week ending June 25.

“Trevor is a first year Varsity player, doing all the kicking duties and playing Free Safety,” explains Senior Varsity coach Jeff Green. “He has been our most consistent player through our first four games.”

Enviro-Clean-Car-Dog-WashOver the weekend in a 14-8 loss to the Twin City Predators, Niven had two field goals, one from 35- and the other from 37-yards out. Niven also had 13 punts for a total of 477 yards, with his longest being 68-yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Niven had two interceptions for a total of 40-yards on the returns.

“Trevor Niven has an extremely strong leg and if he continues to work on his kicking could make a University team as a kicker,” says Chatham-Kent Cougars president Selwyn Jordan. “Trevor is only in grade 11, so he has a bright future.”

Niven also played football this year for the Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks senior boys football team.

Niven and the Chatham-Kent Cougars Senior Varsity team will next travel to face the Brantford Bison on June 28.
