Minor Peewee Diamonds Win Cardinals Classic
Playing in the round robin Friday and Saturday, the Chatham Diamonds compiled a 2-1 record, winning 9-5 over the London Tincaps, 6-3 over Bloordale, and losing 4-2 to Aurora.
Sunday in the semi-final, Chatham came out swinging, taking home a 9-1 win over Toronto to send the Diamonds Minor Peewees to the Cardinals Classic final.
Facing Kitchener in the final, Chatham again came up big with Cameron Vandermeersch and Sam McKinlay on the mound, to take a 9-1 win and the tournament crown.
The Major Peewee Chatham Diamonds were also in tournament action over the weekend, but were eliminated after finishing 2-1 in pool play by a tiebreaker. The Major Peewee Diamonds beat Barrie 14-9 after trailing 9-0 after 1.5 innings. Chatham then lost 8-5 to Burlington, with Sam Haight and Garret Day each having strong performances at the plate. Finally, the Major Peewees downed West London 10-3, but were eliminated via a tiebreaker.
