Trevor Niven is a 17-year-old mutli-sport athlete from Chatham, Ontario, who currently attends Chatham-Kent Secondary School.

A Tecumseh Public School graduate, Niven plays high school football, hockey, and soccer for the CKSS Golden Hawks.

Niven also played for the Senior Varsity Chatham-Kent Cougars football team this past season, and was a recipient of the EnviroClean Car & Dog Wash Cougar of the Week honour in June 2014.

Below are Trevor Niven’s answers to CKSN’s Five Questions:

1. What is your career sports highlight/top memory?

My top memory/highlight would definitely be winning the LYDSL championships in 2012 in a penalty shootout after tying the game in extra time.

2. Who is your favourite professional sports team and athlete?

My favourite professional sports team is without a doubt the Detroit Red Wings. My favourite player even though he’s retired, is Nicklas Lidstrom.

3. If you could achieve one thing/goal in sports, what would it be?

My one true goal in sports is to be able to play at the CIS level in football as a university kicker.

4. Who has been your biggest sports influence and why?

My biggest sports influence is without question my mom. Since my first game of soccer when I was 5 I cannot count on one hand how many games she’s missed whether it’s a home game or a tournament in the States, she’s always been in the stands screaming at the top of her lungs (sometimes a little embarrassing); cheering my teammates and I on regardless the sport.

5. What do you love most about playing sports?

My favourite thing about playing sports is the competitive nature of the game. Whether it was an exhibition or the finals I always tried to come out with the win. My passion for sports is what keeps me going day to day. I couldn’t see myself not playing sports.

Five Questions is a weekly feature on the Chatham-Kent Sports Network. We’ll ask athletes from across Chatham-Kent Five Questions, and post their answers every week. If you know an athlete or coach we should question, or you’re an athlete or coach who would like to participate in “Five Questions,” please email us at ian@cksn.ca.
