Mark Davis Named New Head Coach Of Sarnia Legionnaires
While the future was on his mind, Davis took a chance to first thank the Chatham Maroons organization, who he coached until midway through the 2014-2015 season when the two sides parted ways.
“First I would like to thank the Maroons and their volunteers and their fans for being there for the players, you guys are the best,” said Davis of the organization he coached from 2013 until last season, as well as a second stint in the early 2000s.
For Davis, the choice to take over Sarnia’s vacant head coaching role, which was left by St. Thomas’ Dan Rose earlier this offseason was simple.
“The reason why I chose the Sarnia Legionnaires is that it’s close to home and it’s where I started my Junior B coaching, and hope to end it there,” added Davis, who has been coaching for 34 years, including four Junior B and two Junior C championships.
“It’s a great place to coach with a strong executive who cares about the players and the community. We are missing a lot of players, but this happens and that’s ok because it gives other guys a chance to grow with the team. I’m looking forward to getting back on the bench. I’m a players coach and will do anything for them.”
Sarnia finished third in the GOJHL Western Conference last season with a 33-15-1 record. They begin their spring camp on May 1.
