DeKoning Raring To Go
The Wallaceburg native signed with the Legionnaires this past May after playing two seasons with the Lambton Jr. Sting Major Midget ‘AAA’ program.
Dekoning says he’s excited to get the opportunity to continue to play so close to home.
“It is amazing to sign with the Legionnaires. I have played my AAA hockey in Sarnia, and watched them play. I get to live at home and continue going to school with my friends, but even better than that I get to play in front of my family and friends every week.”
This past season Dekoning scored 20 goals and added 25 assists in 45 games with the Lambton Jr. Sting. The 17-year-old says he expects a smooth transition from minor hockey into Junior.
“I will work hard and play with my team to win games for the Sarnia fans. I expect that we as a team want the same thing and that is to win games and the way to do that is to work hard.”
Dekoning says this season he wants to contribute to both the offensive and defensive play for the Legionnaires.
“I plan to contribute to the best of my ability everyday on the ice. I plan to lead by example, I will play hard, support my teammates and I expect to be a playmaker and hopefully find the back of the net as much as possible,” says Dekoning
“I want to be as reliable in the defensive zone as I am in the offensive zone. Play a full 200-foot game.”
Beyond this season, Dekoning says his goals are to play at the highest level of hockey that he possibly can.
“I am striving to go to school and play hockey beyond high school. Achieving this goal will be within my reach because I am playing for Sarnia and for Mark Davis. Sarnia has a history and a reputation for being one of the strongest Jr. B organizations in the province.”
