Local Sports Briefs: July 22, 2015
- Wallaceburg’s Emily Van Damme is 2-0 at the National Junior Lacrosse Championships. Van Damme is playing for Team Ontario Jr Women’s squad as they beat B.C. 10-5 and topped Alberta 7-5. Tanner Cole of Wallaceburg is playing for the Team Ontario Bantam Boys team. Team Ontario opened with a 9-0 win over Nova Scotia.
- Wallaceburg Red Devils star Corey Lucier was named the MVP for the Ontario Jr B Lacrosse West Division. Lucier scored 40 goals and had 50 assists for 90 points in just 20 games for the Red Devils.
- The Chatham Attack Soccer team are on to the WOSL Second Cup Semi Finals as they beat Taxandria 2-0. Nate St. Pierre scored both Chatham goals.
- The Chatham Storm have also advanced to the semis after beating Norwest 4-2. Andrew Woodall scored three goals for the Storm while Kevin McDonald scored a lone goal.
- Blegium beat Canada 67-52 atteh FIBA Under-19 Women’s World Basketball Championships. Bridget Carelton of Chatham scored 10 points for Canada.
- Port Lambton’s Brendan Seys fired an even par 71 at the Ontario Junior Boys Golf Championships. Seys who golfs out of Maple City Country Club is in seventh place.
