The Wallaceburg Lakers had one of their better performances Sunday night in Blenheim, but the Blades topped Wallaceburg 6-4 to move into third place in the Great Lakes Junior ‘C’ Hockey League.

The Lakers were led by newcomer George Wood’s goal and two assists. Jeff Brown scored his first of the year while Dylan Ryan and Brendan Ritchie grabbed their second tallies. Alex Ritchie finished with two assists and leads Wallaceburg with six points this season. Derion Ducedre and Alex Carriere split time in net, each playing 30 minutes. Ducedre stopped 15 of 19, allowing four goals. Carriere stopped 15 of 17, allowing two.

Blenheim’s Corbin Hagerman opened and closed the scoring, both goals assisted by Zack Horvath and Drew Marlatt. Hagerman returned the favour, with an assist on Marlatt’s eventual game-winning second period goal. Marlattt finished with a goal and two assists while the GLJCHL’s leading scorer Horvath put up three assists to run his season total to five goals and 15 assists. Justin Delgado added two goals and Bryan Boersma had a goal and an assist for the Blades. Klinton Kenney picked up the win between the pipes, stopping 18 of 22 shots.

Blenheim has the league’s three top point producers in Horvath (20), Marlatt (17) and d-man Boersma (12). Blenheim slides into third with a 5-2-1 record, just one point shy of second place Amherstburg.

Wallaceburg falls to 0-6 on the year, with the menacing task of hosting the Essex 73’s on Wednesday night.
