Local Sports Briefs: December 29
- Mark Swayze has stepped down as head coach of the Wallaceburg Lakers. Swayze will remain in his General Manager position. The Lakers (3-27) are in the midst of deciding on a new head coach.
- The Lakers lost their second consecutive game by a score of 10 – 1 at the hands of the Blenheim Blades on Sunday niguht
- A power outage at the Wheatley arena force a postponement of the Wheatley Sharks Blenheim Blades game last night
- Girls Hockey Day will be January 2nd in Wallaceburg as all three girls teams will be playing that day…it will also become a CF fund raising day as well.
- Soo Greyhounds goalie Joseph Raaymakers of Chatham made 20 saves in a 5-1 loss to the Saginaw Spirit on last night in the Ontario Hockey League….The loss ended Raaymakers’s three-game winning streak.
- The Ottawa 67’s have called up LaSalle Vipers rookie forward Nolan Gardiner of Tilbury. The 67’s chose him in the 11th round of the 2014 Ontario Hockey League draft. He played for the Wheatley Sharks in the 2014-15 season.
- Canada dumped Denmark 6-1 yesterday at the World Jr’s. Clachan’s Travis Konecny picked up an assist. Today Team Canada will face Switzerland.
