Dorssers And Day Atop Leaderboard To Open Jamieson Tour
A pair of local golfers, Garret Day and Owen Dorssers were atop the leaderboard this week to win the opening stop of the 2018 Jamieson Golf Tour, held at Willow Ridge Golf Club in Blenheim.
Garret Day (Maple City) took home the crown in the Junior Boys’ division with a round of 75. After shooting a 5-over par 41 on the front nine, Day caught fire on the back nine with three birdies (holes 10, 14 and 17) to shoot a two-under par 34. Ryen Stevens finished in second place with 76, and Andrew Pillon, Mark St. Jean and RJ Durocher split a tie for third with 77.
For the Collegiate Mens’ division, Owen Dorssers used his home-course (Willow Ridge) advantage to earn the victory. In the middle of his round, Dorssers strung together a whopping five birdies in a row (holes 17, 18, 1, 2 and 3) for nines of 34-37 and a 71 total. Bryce Hughes finished in second place, just one shot back of Dorssers, with a 72.
The Junior Girls’ division winner was Hannah Meloche (Sutton Creek), while Alyssa Getty (Kingsville/UNLV Rebels) won the collegiate Womens’ side.
68 golfers in total competed in the event.
The next stop on the Jamieson Tour will be Pointe West Golf Club on July 9.
I would like to say thank you to the individual who wrote the article on the Jamieson Tour. As a parent of one of these golfers it made me quite proud to read such a nice article about him. He works very hard all summer and plays golf as often as he can. He’s definitely improved in his game and it shows. Thank you again for supporting these golfers, it’s a huge confidence builder for sure too.
