The Kent Havoc U15 Girls made history in Chatham-Kent this past weekend.

For the first time, the Kent Havoc fielded a U15 team for competition in Southwestern Ontario.

The Kent Havoc U15 Girls hosted the Brantford Harlequins in their home opener at Victoria Park on Saturday, with 18 girls dressed for the contest. Kent Havoc are playing in the West Division of the Ontario U15 Girls league.

For many of the Havoc girls, this was their first ever game, so both the girls and coaches were a little nervous. Brantford is a quality side, with a wealth of experienced players. The game was close in the first half, with a halftime score of 15-7. Brantford really turned it on in the 2nd half, scoring another 4 tries with no reply from the Havoc.

Final score was 37-7 for Brantford. The Kent try was scored by Gillian Vickery, converted by Ella Brown.

“A great introduction to the game for our girls, some ideas about what to work on for the coaches and everyone left the field with smiles on their faces,” said Carol Moore of the Havoc about the girls’ first game.

Next game for the Havoc U15 side is Saturday, June 22 in Waterloo. Next home game is Saturday July 6 versus London St Georges.
