TJ Brodie Was Close To Becoming A Maple Leaf
Of course it’s fun to discuss what did happen, the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Tyson Barrie and Alex Kerfoot for Nazem Kadri, but sometimes it’s fun to discuss what almost happened.
Namely, TJ Brodie was reportedly close to becoming a Toronto Maple Leafs defender.
Prior to Toronto’s blockbuster trade with the Colorado Avalanche, the Leafs were involved in three-way trade talk with the Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets, according to CBC’s Chris Johnston, a trade which would have still involved Kadri, but would have sent Dresden, Ontario’s TJ Brodie to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
CBC’s Tim Wharnsby backed up the report that the Leafs were offering Kadri for Brodie, but that ultimately the Colorado deal made more sense.
Some speculate the only thing that stopped this deal was Kadri’s no-trade clause.
Now all we’re left to do is speculate what ifs.
Although it sounds like Brodie is still on the market, it would appear the market is cooling as summer heats up.
