Major Bantam Cyclones Off To Strong Start
The Major Bantam Chatham-Kent Cyclones team is off to hot start in the Alliance AAA league this season, with a record of 6-2-1 through the first 9 games of the season under Head Coach DJ Degelas who returned after a two season hiatus.
At their season opening Showcase, the Cyclones stumbled out of the gate losing 4-2 to the Huron Perth Lakers. Connor Tucker and Rorey Elson had the goals.
Chatham-Kent followed that up however with a pair of convincing offensive performances beating the Kitchener Jr. Rangers 7-2 and the Cambridge Hawks 5-2. Elson had 2 goals and an assist, Brayden Degelas had 3 goals and 3 assists, Colton Graham had 3 assists, David Brown had a goal and 2 assists, Trent Ledrew had a goal and 5 assists, and TJ Pollard had 3 goals. Brenden McKay also scored.
The Cyclones closed out the Showcase weekend with a 3-3 tie against the Brantford 99ers with goals from Graham, Tucker, and Kyle Greene.
The following weekend, Chatham-Kent kept winning with a 1-0 shutout over the Hamilton Huskies. Tre Altiman recorded the shutout, while Ryan Cronheimer scored the lone goal.
Chatham-Kent then knocked off the Cambridge Hawks 7-2 with another impressive offensive performance. Trent Ledrew scored a pair, while Owen Kalp had a goal and 3 assists, Rorey Elson had a goal and an assist, Brayden Degelas had 3 assists, Connor Tucker had a goal and an assist, and David Brown and Carter Navage added singles.
Last week, the Cyclones added another pair of wins beating the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs 5-4 and the Lambton Jr. Sting 3-1 on the road. Colton Graham and David Brown had a pair of goals and an assist, Degelas had a goal and 3 assists, with Greene, Cronheimer, and Elson also scoring.
Finally as a part of Cyclones Day this past weekend, the Cyclones were shutout 1-0 by the Windsor Jr. Spitfires for only their second loss of the season.
Game 10 is Wednesday night 7:30pm at Memorial Arena vs the Sun County Panthers featuring Chatham’s Declan Waddick and Brayden Twigg.
