The Glory Days Of The Walpole Island Hawks
In the early 1990s, the Walpole Island Hawks were one of the toughest teams to beat in the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League.
In fact, the Hawks were runners up in the league three straight seasons – 1990, 1991, and 1992.
Unfortunately, following that season, the Hawks moved to Tilbury, where the team won a Great Lakes title, before the team moved back to Walpole following an off ice scandal in Tilbury.
The Walpole Island Hawks were back in the Great Lakes final in 1996, but this would be the team’s last dance in the finals.
Sadly, in 1999, the team folded, and never returned to the ice.
