Recent Surge In COVID-19 Cases In Chatham-Kent Cancels Southern Ontario Motor Speedway’s Lone Planned Event

Southern Ontario Motor Speedway was planning to put together a single show for local dirt track racing enthusiasts, but COVID-19 had other ideas.

The Speedway, formerly South Buxton Raceway, announced this week that their lone planned event, which had been scheduled for September 19, would no longer be happening.

“We at Southern Ontario Motor Speedway regret to announce that due to the current increased number of COVID-19 cases in Chatham Kent we are unable to proceed with the race scheduled for September 19 as our first priority has always been the safety of our staff, drivers and fans,” their statement said.

“We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to seeing you at our 2021, 50th anniversary season. Stay safe and take care.”

The “Summer Showdown” had originally aimed to feature Late Models, Modifieds, Thunderstocks, and Mini-Mods, with 100 fans attending.
