The Tilbury Bluebirds, who have sat in first place for much of the season, find themselves sitting in third place after a 6-5 loss to the Stratford Fighting Irish this past Saturday.

Adam Hughes and Mitch VanTeeling scored to goals each for the Bluebirds, while Jeff Burridge had a single.

The top scorers for the Fighting Irish were Cooper Leitch and Matt Granger with two goals each. Warren Gorman and Brody Smith also scored.

Stratford recorded 47 shots on net to Tilbury’s 27.

The Bluebirds have two games remaining in the 2022-23 WOSHL regular season, both at home in Tilbury. To lock down the top spot the Birds will need a pair of wins, and for Stratford to drop both of their final games.

Saturday, Tilbury will face the Strathroy Jets who have been on a bit of a run lately and the Bluebirds have struggled with them all season, losing three times. Puck drop in Tilbury is at 7:30 p.m.

And then on Sunday night, they face the Fighting Irish, who are currently tied for first with one game in hand over Elora.
