Local swimmers take home the gold
A great weekend for two local swimmers Quinn Matteis and Shona Branton at the U SPORTS Canadian Swim Competition.
Quinn, representing the Varsity Blues team, captured the gold medal in the 1500 free, silver in his 400 free after being seated 17th overall, and he helped the men’s relay bring home another silver medal in the 200m x 4 free.
To top it all off, he was awarded as Men’s Rookie of the Year for the entire meet.
The competition also saw local Wallaceburg swimmer Shona Branton of the Western Mustang Mustangs excel in the pool
Winning the 100m breaststroke, she finished in 1:08.99, nearly a whole second ahead of the second-place finisher. She also won silver in the 50m breaststroke the day before.
