The Tilbury Bluebirds saw their hopes of advancing to the WOSHL Championship evaporate when Tillsonburg scored in the third period to give the Thunder a 6-5 victory in Game 7 Tuesday night.

The Bluebirds trailed early in the game with three goals scored by the Thunder’s Mike Rebry, Mitch Brown, and Jake Brown. Thanks to Evan Weber, Tilbury did get a goal with less than a minute remaining in the period.

In the second, things were looking up for the Bluebirds after they scored three goals to the Thunder’s one, to end the period tied at 4-4. Second-period goal scorers were Austin Jennings, Ryan Crevatin, and Jeff Burridge for Tilbury. Jake Brown scored his second of the game for the Thunder.

In the third, Mike Rebry scored his second of the night to give the Thunder a 5-4 lead at 13:22. The Bluebirds’ Mitch VanTeeling would tie the game 5-5 at 9:24.

It looked like the game would head into overtime until Thunder forward Jake Brown scored his third goal of the game with just 45 seconds left in the third.

Bluebirds starting goaltender Ryan Polidori left the game after giving up his third goal in the first period. Backup tender Preston Swan-Merrison took the loss between the pipes. The Thunder’s Jesse Raymond was the winning goaltender.

The Thunder will now face the Stratford Fighting Irish in the Championship finals.
