Lambton Lions advance to national championship
The Lambton College Lions won 62-47 over Saint-Jean Geants in the semifinals at the 2024 CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championships to advance to Saturday night’s Gold Medal game. This is the first time that the Lions have advanced to the National Championship Final Eight.
The Lions will take on the Lakeland Rustlers in the National Championship. The Rustlers come into Saturday’s Gold Medal game without a blemish on their record this season and are the hosts of this year’s tournament in Lloydminster, Alberta. The game will tip off at 8 p.m. (EST).
Wallaceburg’s Brett Fischer was held to just two points, but she chipped in 10 rebounds and five assists.
The Lions also include Walpole Island First Nation’s Legacie Blackbird on their roster, and are coached by former Wallaceburg Tartan coach Janine Day. Assistant coaches Jeff Byrne, Pauline Turner and Katie Barnes all have Wallaceburg ties.
Way to go Lions…we are cheering for you…great team!
