Jacobs picked by Saginaw in OHL draft
Wallaceburg’s Nash Jacobs was picked in the weekend’s OHL draft.
Jacobs, who played on the Chatham-Kent Cyclones AAA U16 team this past season, was picked in the eighth round by the Saginaw Spirit, 161st overall.
At six-foot-two and 150 lbs, Jacobs played in 24 games with the Cyclones this season, scoring nine goals and nine assists for 18 points.
A member of the Walpole Island First Nation, Jacobs comes from a hockey family. His dad Trevor Jacobs played four seasons with the Chatham Maroons, before he had to retire early due to injuries. Jacobs’ grandfather Jerry Jacobs played college hockey for Ohio State.
One other Cyclone U16 player was picked in the OHL, as Sarnia’s Julien Davis was picked by the Ottawa 67s in the 11th round, 213th overall. Davis had 20 points (11 goals, nine assists) in 26 games with the Cyclones.
Essex’s Eddie Hickson, who was an affiliate player with the Chatham Maroons Junior B team, was picked in the seventh round by the London Knights, 142nd overall. Hickson also played for the Sun County AAA U16 team.
