Wallaceburg Lakers Sold?
The Wallaceburg Lakers have accepted an offer to sell the Great Lakes Junior ‘C’ team.
Lakers President Jim McCrea says the executive held a vote on Saturday to accept the offer from a group of investors who will guarantee the Lakers stay in Wallaceburg for a minimum of ten years.
It’s unclear if the deal is to sell the franchise or simple financial assistance.
“(This group) has agreed to pay off all past debts and infuse a great deal of money to help run a team that will be much better than we have seen in the past few years,” said McCrea.
McCrea re-asserted his desire to keep the Lakers in the ‘Burg.
“I and all the executive have (done) and will do whatever needed to keep the Lakers in (Wallaceburg) and make a team we can all be proud of.”
The deal is pending league approval. Potential buyers are unknown at press time.
The Lakers have not made the playoffs since 2011, finishing in last place each season since.
