Chris Bergeron of Wallaceburg is ready to open his first season as head coach of the NCAA’s Miami University Redhawks men’s hockey program.

A graduate of Miami in 1993, Bergeron went on to play professionally in the AHL, ECHL, IHL, and CHL after his NCAA Division I career.

“We are excited to welcome Chris, along with his wife Janis, and his two sons, Logan and Connor, back to Miami University and the Oxford community,” said Miami Director of Athletics David Sayler in a school news release.

“As a successful student-athlete, captain and assistant coach here at Miami, it is evident that Coach Bergeron has played an integral role in the past success of this program. I look forward to working with him as we focus all our efforts on becoming more competitive within the NCHC and on the national level.”

Bergeron and the Redhawks will open their year October 5 against Bergeron’s former team, the Bowling Green Falcons.

Bergeron served as the head coach for the NCAA Division I Bowling Green Falcons from 2010 until 2019. Prior to that, Bergeron was an assistant coach with Miami University for ten seasons.
