2021 Chatham-Kent Men’s Athlete of the Year: Brett Brochu
For the third straight year, Brett Brochu has been named Chatham-Kent’s Men’s Athlete of the Year.
This year’s voting was sponsored by Maple City Homes and FamilyLending.ca.
Brochu made his professional hockey debut in 2021 suiting up for the American Hockey League’s Wilkes/Barre Scranton Penguins. His start for the team made Brochu the youngest player in franchise history to play for the AHL’s Penguins.
When the 2021 OHL season resumes, Brochu returned to the London Knights where he got off to an unbeatable start, earning OHL Goalie of the Month honours. His performance earned Brochu a spot on Hockey Canada’s World Junior Championships roster.
Here, Brochu made his Team Canada debut in an 11-2 Canada win over Austria.
Overall Brochu took 29.4% of the vote.
The runner up of Chatham-Kent’s athlete of the year was Deni Goure with 20.4% of the vote, followed by Gabe St. Pierre with 17.6% of the vote. Austin Fordham-Miller and Zach Lindley rounded out the top 5 in voting.
