Chatham Outlaws Midgets Eliminated from Provincial playoffs
The Chatham Outlaws Screen Craft Midget AA team competed in three games over the past week winning one. Their losses meant the team has been eliminated from Provincial Playoff contention.
On Wednesday, Chatham travelled to Sarnia to take on the Sarnia Lady Sting in an OWHA regional playdown game. Despite outshooting Sarnia, Chatham could not bury their scoring chances and fell to Sarnia 3-0. Sarnia scored their last goal into an empty net.
On Friday, the Chatham Outlaws visited Windsor for another regional playdown game against the Wildcats. Chatham fell behind 1-0 in the first, but managed to tie the score in the 2nd when Anna Beenackers scored her ninth goal of the season with assists from Rebekah Coll and Stacey McDonald. The Wildcats regained and extended their lead to 3-1 with goals in the third period. Chatham closed the gap with a power play goal from Elyse Trudell nicely set up by Grace Van Praet and Alena Fiala. Despite furious action in the final minutes, Chatham could not tally the equalizer. The loss eliminated the Outlaws from participating in the provincial championships.
On Saturday, the Chatham Outlaws returned to Lower Lakes Female Hockey League action travelling to Stratford to take on the Aces. After a scoreless first period, Chatham opened the scoring in the second period on a goal by Elyse Trudell assisted by Kennedy Carr and Grace Van Praet. The Aces stormed back with two goals of their own to take a 2-1 lead. Chatham answered with two unassisted goals from Jessica Mullins and Alena Fiala in the third. Paige Fuoco iced the contest with an unassisted empty net goal to close the scoring and give the Outlaws the 4-2 victory.
The Chatham Outlaws will try to play spoiler on Wednesday when they host the Sarnia Lady Sting in the final regional playdown game. After that, Chatham has six remaining LLFHL league games in which they need to close a 5 point deficit in the standing to earn a spot in the playoffs.
