Chatham Skating Club Owns the Podium at Futures West Competition

Chatham-Kent Figure Skating News – Much as the Canadian Olympic team aimed to “Own the Podium” in 2010, the Chatham Skating Club recently owned the podium and put Figure Skating in Chatham back on the map with 22 medals at the 2011 Futures West Skating Competition in Point Edward.

For some of the skaters, this was their first or second time in competition.
 


In CanSkate age 6 & under, Teya Meredith in her very first skate, landed on the podium with a Silver medal.  Also in this category were, Zara Belanger who placed 4th and Olivia Crow who placed 6th in their respective flights. 
 
During the CanSkate age 7 event, Megan Desmarais finished in 4th place. 
 
While at the CanSkate age 8 & over level, Chatham captured 2 Golds, with Daisy Lacina and Amanda Power landing centre podium, and Masha Bustard, also on the podium with a Bronze Medal, all in their own respective flights. 
 
In WO Pre-Preliminary ‘A’ Ltd., Chatham had many skaters competing in various flights.  Capturing Gold Medals were, Emma McGrail, Brooke MacLeod, and Rebecca O’Phee.  Silver Medals went to; Rihana Kukkadi, Chloe Stallaert and Sydney Hart.  While Bronze Medals were given to; Lauren Anjema, Emily Zimmer and Gabrielle Gooch.  Also skating well at this level were; Gabrielle Doey and Yasamin Ahmadzadeh who placed 4th, and Sophie Luckhurst who placed 6th. 
 
In WO Pre-Preliminary ‘A’ Ltd. Men, Nicholas Robinson landed centre podium with the Gold Medal, while during WO Pre-Prelimininary ‘B’ Ltd. Men, Joshua Andari took home the Silver Medal.  
 
At the WO Pre-Preliminary ‘B’ Ltd. event, Elyse Gregory received the Silver Medal, while Alexis VanBallegooyen placed 4th and Amanda Couture received 7th place.
 
During Starskate Pre-Preliminary, Olivia Hunter landed the Silver Medal at her event. 
 
While at the WO Preliminary ‘A’ Ltd. flights, a Gold Medal went to Hayley Luckhurst, the Silver Medal went to Mackenzie Faubert, while Taylor Kewley received the Bronze Medal.  Candice LaBute placed 5th during the different flights of this level. 
 
In WO Preliminary ‘B’ Ltd., Brianna LaChance took home the Bronze Medal.
 
At WO Preliminary ‘B’ Ltd. Men,  Zachary Stallaert landed the Gold Medal.
