Major Atom Chatham-Kent Wildcats Finish 5th at Provincials

The Girls Major Atom U12 Chatham-Kent Wildcats Girls Basketball team travelled to Mississauga this past weekend forChatham-Kent Wildcats Basketball Logo their Ontario Basketball Association Provincial Championships. Below are the results which led to a 5th place finish for the Chatham-Kent team:
 
Game 1: Chatham-Kent Wildcats  – 52 Scarborough  – 41
 
Top Scorers: Allyson Huckle – 11, Logan Kucera and Burke Bechard both with 10, Jana Kucera  – 9, Julia Rush, – 5, Lauren Ball – 4, Loren Koluk and McKenna Ladd both with 2
 
Game 2: Chatham-Kent Wildcats  – 30 Toronto Triple Threat – 45
 
Top Scorers: Burke Bechard – 9, Allyson Huckle – 6, Logan Kucera – 4, Lauren Ball – 3, Chelsea Hartford, Brooke Mackinnon and McKenna Ladd all with 2, Kaylle Boulley with 1
 
Chatham-Kent got off to a slow start in this important game.  The Wildcats outscored their opponents 24 – 14 in the second half but it was already too late. Triple Threat went on to win the Provincial Championship. 
 
Game 3: Chatham-Kent – 25 Newman – 35
 
Top Scorers: Logan Kucera, Loren Koluk and Burke Bechard all with 5, Lauren Ball – 3, Julia Rush, Riley Torres and Jana Kucera all with 2, Allyson Huckle – 1
 
Newman (Stoney Creek) was the #1 seed in the tournament and this was the 4th time the Wildcats had played them this season and this being the closest score the team has had against them.  Newman has a 6 ‘ – 12 year old who is a challenge to contain and the Wildcats did well against her this weekend.
 
Newman was also defeated in the semi-final by the York North Avengers who eventaully lost to Triple Threat in the championship game.  
 
The Major Atom Chatham-Kent Wildcats’ defense first approach continued to be the team’s strength all weekend and the Wildcats coaching staff said they played well.  Finishing fifth in the province in the top division is something the team was proud of as it is extremely competitive basketball.
