Nexxice Shines, Chatham Mini Crystals Win at Synchro Skating Competition

Chatham, ON – The Canadian Nexxice Team shined in their exhibition performance Saturday at Thames Campus in Chatham. The synchronized skating team was performing during the Bernie Deveau Memorial – Bert Winfield Invitational Synchronized Skating Competition in Chatham.

As Canada’s top synchro skating team, Nexxice will represent the country at next month’s World Championships in Finland and are coached by former Chatham resident Shelley Simonton-Barnett.

In the Bert Winfield Synchronized Skating Competition itself, Chatham’s Maple City Ice Cyrstals performed well. The Chatham Maple City Mini Crystals took home top prize in the Beginner I Category winning gold.

Other local teams that finished well include the Bothwell Blades, 6th in the Beginner I Category, Ridgetown Reflections, 5th in the Beginner II Category, and the Maple City Ice Crystals, 6th in the Pre-Novice competition.

Last year, top local finishers at Chatham’s annual synchronized skating competition included the Wallaceburg Ice Angels who came in 4th in the Beginner II Division. In the Pre-Novice Synchro division, the Maple City (Chatham) Ice Crystals finished 7th, and in the Adult SYS III Synchro division, the Ridgetown Ice Illusions came in 4th.
