The Peewee Kent County Fillies girls hockey team faced a speedy West Lorne team in game 1 of the Western Ontario Girls Hockey League Peewee C Group 2 final on Saturday in Ridgetown.  West Lorne caught the Fillies off guard and scored an early goal less than a minute into the game.  Kent County couldn’t seem to find their groove at all this game, and instead had to play some strong defensive hockey against a strong forechecking West Lorne team.  Kaysey Dorssers kept the Fillies in the game with a few key saves, but the Fillies just couldn’t muster a goal and lost 1-0.

Game 2 in the best of 3 series was Wednesday night in West Lorne.  Facing a must win situation, the Kent County Fillies played hard and gave it their all.  Once again, the Fillies fell behind 1-0 early in the first period.  They managed to get it back early in the second period on a nice rush by Adrianna Long who made no mistake on her shot going high on the glove side.  Paige Monden earned an assist on the play.  West Lorne regained their lead before the period  was over however.  Similar to their first goal, they won a faceoff deep in the Kent County end and quickly fired a shot that found its way into the net.  The Fillies battled hard in the third period, forcing West Lorne goaltender Chelsea Grexton to make some excellent saves, but could not get another past her.  West Lorne hung on for the 2-1 win and the 2-0 series win.

This wraps up a fairly successful season for the first year of the Kent County Fillies Peewee team.  Their record for the entire year was 25-12-6, including gold and silver in tournament action.
