Blenheim Blast Swimmers Shine at Home Meet
Blenheim, ON – Blenheim swimmers kept up their winning ways Sunday at their second hosted meet of the 2010/2011 swim season. Swimmers from Leamington, Aylmer and Windsor joined the Blenheim Blast for their sixth St. Clair Erie Aquatic League meet, with 150 swimmers competing in 61 separate events.
Swimming in the seven-and-under girls events, five-year-old Kennedy Crevits placed 7th in the 25M backstroke, and 8th in the 25M freestyle.
Swimming in the same age group, Emma Pegg had three personal-best times, and placed 1st in both the 25M back and 25M breaststroke. She finished her backstroke in 25.03 seconds, and the breaststroke in 26.82 seconds. She placed 3rd in the 25M freestyle with a PB time of 21.75S. She also placed third in the 25M butterfly. Emma swam the 100M individual medley in the girls 8-9 age group, and had a PB time of 1:58.14.
Karly Crevits, Olivia Hanak-Guttridge and Abigael Johnston had strong swims in the girls 8-9-year-old events. Karly had personal-best swims in her 25M breaststroke, which she finished in 42.24S, and her 50M freestyle, at 1:04.99.
Olivia had three PB swims: she finished the 100M individual medley in 2:01.29, the 25M butterfly in 26.44S, and the 25M breaststroke in 29.29S.
Abigael finished her 25M butterfly in a PB time of 36.70S. She also had a PB in her 25M breaststroke, at 32.10S, and she finished her 50M freestyle in 1:04.99.
Four Blast girls had great swims in their 10-11-year-old girls events. Grace Hansen had five top-ten swims, and each swim was a personal-best. She placed 4th in the 50M fly, with a time of 44.66S. She finished 5th in both the 50M backstroke – at 47.09S – and the 50M breaststroke, at 52.35S. She had a 6th-place finish in the 100M freestyle, with a time of 1:28.08, and she finished the 100M IM in 8th place at 1:39.79.
Ten-year-old Delainey Johnson had a 10th-place finish in the 50M backstroke, which she finished in a PB time of 51.49S. She also had a PB time of 1:00.35 in the 50M butterfly.
Carolyn Prins placed 6th in this age group in the 50M breaststroke. She also had a personal-best swims in the 50M backstroke, finishing at 54.62S, and the 100M freestyle, which she finished in 2:00.73.
Tess Richardson had three personal-best swims. She finished the 100M IM in 2:11.45, the 50M backstroke in 59.36S, and the 100M freestyle in 1:55.44.
Mason Burk, Jared Fiala and Ryan Scott posted several personal-best swims. Mason finished his 50M breaststroke in 6th place with a PB time of 55.51S. He had a 7th-place finish in both the 100M freestyle and the 100M IM, he placed 8th in the 50M backstroke, and finished in 9th-place in the 50M butterfly.
Jared placed 10th in the 50M breaststroke, which he finished in a PB time of 1:04.41. He also had a PB time of 2:15.90 in the 100M freestyle. Ryan swam his 50M backstroke in a PB time of 1:06.45.
The 12-13-year-old girls events saw some impressive personal-best swims. Hannah Clark had four PB swims: she finished the 100M IM in 1:48.60, the 50M fly in 53.98S, the 100M breaststroke in 2:13.97, and the 100M freestyle in 1:35.30.
Mackenzie Desbiens had five top-ten finishes, and one personal-best swim. She finished the 100M IM in 2nd place with a PB time of 1:23.61. She also placed 2nd in the 100M breaststroke. Mackenzie placed 3rd in the 50M fly, the 100M backstroke and the 100M freestyle.
Olivia Ermers had a personal-best time of 49.41S in the 50M butterfly, and 1:56.81 in the 100M backstroke.
Alex Hall had a strong 200M individual medley, finishing in 2nd place in a PB time of 3:16.42. She placed 8th in the 50M butterfly with a personal-best swim of 41.39S. She also placed 6th overall in the 100M freestyle.
Sophia Maclean placed 3rd overall in the 200M IM, finishing with a PB time of 3:27.81.She finished just out of the top ten in both the 50M butterfly and the 100M backstroke, but she finished the fly in a PB time of 41.74S, and the back in a PB time of 1:35.12.
Nikki McIntyre placed 10th overall in the 100M breaststroke. She also had three PB times: she finished the 50M butterfly in 52.46S, the 100M backstroke in 1:45.83, and the 100M freestyle in 1:24.51.
Rain Pfaff finished in the top five in all of her girls 12-13-year-old events. She placed 1st in the 100M IM, the 100M backstroke, the 200M IM and the 200M freestyle, and 3rd in the 100M breaststroke. She had PB times in the 100M IM, at 1:23.41, the 200M IM at 3:05.31, and the 200M freestyle at 2:44.03.
Eleven-year-old Brendan VanHerk joined Jacob Hart in the boys 12-13 year-old events, and brought home four top-five finishes and three personal-best times. He placed 1st in the 200M IM, the 50M butterfly and the 100M breaststroke, and 2nd in the 100M backstroke. Brendan?s time of 2:47.68 in the IM was a PB for him, as was his time of 33.67S in the fly. He had a PB time of 1:30.21 in the 100M breaststroke. Brendan swam the 100M freestyle in the male 14-and-over group, and placed 5th overall.
Jake had four personal-best times, and placed 10th overall in the 100M freestyle ? he finished that event in 1:51.00. His other PBs were in the 100M IM, which he finished in 2:01.04, the 50M fly at 58.19S, the 100M back at 2:09.78.
The 14-year-old Blast females had a strong meet, with Riley Johnson finishing all her events in first place, all in personal-best time. She finished the 100M IM in 1:16.42, the 100M back in 1:15.01, the 200M IM in 2:52.25, the 100M breaststroke in 1:31.27, and the 200M freestyle in 2:27.39.
Catherine Thompson finished in the top ten in all of her events. She placed 2nd in both the 100M breaststroke and the 100M IM, 3rd in the 100M freestyle, 5th in the 100M backstroke and 6th in the 50M butterfly.
The 14-and-over male events had some great times by Blast swimmers River Pfaff, Ian Prins and Eric Montgomery. River placed 1st in both the 100M IM, with a PB time of 1:16.09, and the 200M IM, at a PB time of 2:44.33. He placed 2nd overall in the 50M fly, the 100M breaststroke and the 200M free. His times of 1:27.60 in the breaststroke and 2:32.09 in the 200M free were personal bests for River.
Ian had four top-ten finishes and one personal-best time. He placed 8th in the 100M backstroke, at 1:40.68. He also finished 8th in the 100M freestyle, 9th in the 100M IM, and 10th in the 50M butterfly.
Eric had five top-ten finishes and three personal-best swims. He placed 7th in the 100M freestyle, the 100M breaststroke and the 100M backstroke. His free time of 1:12.42 and his breaststroke time of 1:35.02 were PB?s for him. He placed 8th overall in the 100M IM with a PB time of 1:26.06. Eric also placed 9th in the 50M butterfly.
The team will be travelling to Leamington on April 16 for the SEAL year-end meet. This will wrap up the short-course season, but a number of swimmers are currently training for long-course competition, as well as age group nationals.
