Jones Scores Game Winner in Oilers Shutout Victory Over First Place Canucks
As the 2010-2011 season draws near to an end, Chatham’s Ryan Jones continues to rack up goals in his most successful NHL season.
Last night, Jones hit the scoresheet with 3 seconds remaining in the first period scoring his 18th goal of the season. Assisting on the goal were Edmonton youngsters Jordan Eberle and Jeff Petry.
Magnus Paajarvi later scored to cap of the Edmonton Oilers 2-0 win over the first place Vancouver Canucks.
Prior to this season, Jones’ most successful season was 2008-2009 when he scored 7 goals and 10 assists in 46 games as a member of the Nashville Predators. Currently, Jones has 3 points in his last 3 games, with only 3 games remaining in the regular season, including tonight in Calgary.
Jones is a former Chatham-Kent Cyclones, Blenheim Blades, and Chatham Maroons player. Jones has overcome significant odds and taken advantage of his chances this season to show those across the NHL what he can do.
Last season in an interview with CKSN, Jones said, “Along the athletic journey there will be no shortage of people who say you can’t make it. Like the old saying goes, if you want it bad enough it will happen.”
With each goal he scores, Jones is continuing to prove critics wrong and is rapidly endearing himself to the Edmonton Oilers fans. Earlier this year, however, only days prior to the NHL trade deadline, Jones turned down a contract extension with the Oilers in order to explore his options this summer as an unrestricted free agent.
