Major Atom and Novice AA Chatham Maroons Win Bluewater League Titles
The Chatham Maroons Major Novice and Major Atom ‘AA’ teams wrapped up successful seasons by winning Bluewater League Championships on Sunday. The Major Atom team defeated Amherstburg in the final game, while the Major Novice Maroons, who won an OMHA title in March, beat Belle River to win the Bluewater League.
The Major Atom Maroons captured their win over Amherstburg 3-2. Kyle Koopmans was the winning goalie. Goal scorers in the game were Caleb Havens, Seth Henderson, and Tyler Mullins. Assists went to Cameron Wheeler, Ty Lucio, and Reagan Kellier.
The Major Novice Chatham Maroons started their weekend off with a 4-1 win over the Essex Ravens in the Bluewater semi-final. Brendan Mairs had two goals in the game, with singles going to Adrian Stubberfield and Ryan Burke. Jared Delaey added two assists, while Burke, Colin Kloostra, Dakota VanGoethem, and Matt Gaudrault also hit the scoresheet with helpers. Jessie McPherson and Aiden Lucyk shared goaltending duties.
In the Major Novice Bluewater Final on Sunday April 3, Chatham narrowly edged Belle River 4-3 for the win. Chatham ended the first period with a 2-1 lead over Belle River with goals coming from Ryan Burke (unassisted) and Dakota VanGoethem, assisted by Matt Gaudrault.
In the 2nd Period, the two teams traded goals, with Quinn Erickson potting one for Chatham, assisted by Colin Kloostra and Cal Polowick, to head to the third period leading 3-2. During the final fram, the teams again traded goals, with Chatham’s Brendan Mairs scoring an unassisted marker, which stood as the game winning goal.
Aiden Lucyk stared the game between the pipes allowing 2 goals and making some key saves early in the game, Jessie McPherson finished up the game allowing one goal and making two great Belle River breakaway saves in the final period of the game, both goalies had a spectacular game.
