Blenheim, ON – The UCC Lancers Girls Rugby team got off to a strong start to their season defeating the Blenheim Bobcats 20-5 in the first game of KCSSAA high school rugby.

Early in the game, UCC scored a try, but failed to convert their kick, giving the Lancers a 5-0 lead. Minutes later after winning several battles, the Lancers scored another try, and this time converted their kick, giving them a large lead going into the half.

Although Blenheim showed to be the quicker team, UCC controlled the ball throughout the game scoring two more tries in the second half, while Blenheim managed to get on the board with a try from Chelsea Naclerio.

UCC’s tries were scored by Katrina Squazzin, Christina Coop, Alicia Dalanyi, and Michelle (Pleasant) Nolan.

The Lancers managed to dictate the game by controlling the ball at the breakdown and the rucks throughout the game and pinned Blenheim in their own end for much of the game. The two teams will meet again on April 21.

The KCSSAA Girls rugby league consists of Blenheim, UCC, and Chatham-Kent Secondary School. Each team plays each other twice in the season.
