Wallaceburg Red Devils Go Undefeated at Exhibition Tournament in Windsor
If preseason results are any sign of things to come, the Wallaceburg Red Devils are well on their way to a successful season of Junior B Lacrosse. This past weekend at a preseason exhibition tournament in Windsor, the Red Devils went undefeated beating Windsor and Sarnia, and tying London.
In their morning game against the Windsor Clippers, Jordan VanDamme led the team with 5 goals in a 9-6 win. In the 3rd period, goaltender Kirby Celotto stole the show for the Wallaceburg Red Devils.
“Kirby Celotto played a great game for us against Windsor and I am leaning on him to have a great season,” said new Wallaceburg Red Devils Head Coach Justin Durston.
Facing the Sarnia Pacers who were playing back to back games short benched, the Red Devils got out to a huge 9-1 lead after two periods. When fights broke out in the third, the Pacers were forced to forfeit the game. Tye Belanger took the win in net for the Red Devils.
Playing immediately after their game with Sarnia, in their third game of the day, the Wallaceburg Red Devils again got out to a strong start against the London Blue Devils gaining a 5-1 lead, but the toll of playing back to back games was too much for Wallaceburg as they allowed London back into the game ending in an 8-8 tie. Reid Miller was an offensive spark for the Red Devils scoring 3 goals in the game.
Even after a successful weekend, coach Justin Durston recognizes there is still improvements to be made, and that there is a long season ahead,
“Overall on the weekend we saw a lot of positive things out of the players, but we definately have some habits we need to break.”
