Blenheim Blast Swimmers Qualify for WOSA Long Course Championships

Blenheim Blast Swim TeamSome of the Blenheim Blast Swim Team travelled to Brantford Saturday April 30 for a Long Course Swim Meet (50 metre pool) .  Many Blast swimmers were busy trying achieve WOSA Long Course time standards and Provincial times to qualify for both the WOSA Long Course Championships at Brock University in June, and the Long Course Junior Provincial Championships in Etobicoke June 30-July 3. 
 
At the Brantford Meet the following swimmers achieved WOSA Long Course Time Standards to qualify for WOSA LC Championships at Brock University in the following event. Two fo our swimmers, Brendan and Shania VanHerk completed races in which they qualifed for the Junior Provincial LC Championships. 
  
Grace Hansen (10) F

Grace Hanson placed 1st in the Girls 10 and under fly, 2nd place in both the100m Breast and 100m Free and 3rd place in in 100 backstroke . Her 100m Free time of 1:27.63L qualifed for WOSA Championships.

Riley Johnson (14) F

Riley Johnson placed 1st in the 14 year old girls 400 IM, and followed up with second place finishes in 50m Free, 800m Free and 100m Fly.  Her 100m Fly time of 1:19.85L was a qualifying time for WOSA.

Emma Pegg (7) F

7 Year old Emma Pegg placed 3rd in the Girls 10 and under 50m Fly, and achieved a WOSA time in the 100 Breast with a 5th place finish in a time of 2:10.13L

Brendan VanHerk (11) M

Brendan VanHerk placed 1st in each of his events in the Boys 11 year old 50 Free, Fly 100 Free and 200 Back, achieving Provincial time standards in the following three events (While Brendan was 1st in the 50m Fly it is not a Provincial Event for his age group)

Justine VanHerk (17) F  Shania VanHerk (14) F  17 year old Justine Van Herk placed 1st in all three of her events in the 15 and over Women’s category , 50 Free , 100 Free and 100 Back. 

Shania VanHerk  placed 1st in each of her events for 14 year old girls- 50 Free, 100 Fly, Free and Back.  Her times of 29.04 L in the 50 Free and 1:11.98 L in the 50 Fly are qualifying times for the Junior Provincial Long Course Championships, and Shania surpassed WOSA standards to qualify in in her other two swims 100 Free and Back for WOSA .

One of our other team members Sophia MacLean (13) placed 2nd in the 13 year old girls 200 IM,  with a personal best time of 3:24.87L and placed 4th in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:45.48L.   Sophia is working hard to try to qualify for WOSA in June.
